Home Movies Animating Heritage

Home Movies Animating Heritage Project is an initiative of the Illawarra Migration Heritage Project Inc. In partnership with Film Illawarra, Faculty of Arts, School of Art & Design, Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Wollongong.

What is the Home Movies Animating Heritage Project

The Migration Heritage Project aims to create a community register of home movies and a museum display using digital projection technology. The register will hold a record of information about your home movies making it possible for us to select, document, educate and tell the story of migrant heritage through moving image.

The museum display will be a digital collage of home movies, still images, words and sound, shown in public museums, community centres and gallery spaces promoting the importance of migrant heritage.

Why register and collect home movies

It is important to collect home movies to add to, and enrich our understanding and knowledge of the history of the Illawarra region. Home movie footage may include; stories of arrival and settlement in Australia, festivals, parades, school events, cultural celebrations, ceremonies and sporting events. Anything that represents or is significant to the heritage, traditions, customs, experiences and lifestyles of Illawarra migrant families and community.

How can you register your home movies

By filling out the Home Movie Register Form or contact Film Illawarra or the Migration Heritage Project. The register will only contain information that's relevant to the content of the movie, the year it was made, the type of film or video used, the quality of sound and image etc.

If your home movie is selected, with your consent or the filmmakers, it will be digitised and edited as part of our museum digital display. We will copy your home movie on to DVD format and return the original to you.
